Updates on the World is Flat 2.0
The new version of World is Flat is finally available. Tom Friedman says the one question that he has tried to answer in this book—what do a sensitized American tell his/her kid?
In an interview to Amazon, he says that the new version of his book answers such questions as what is the going to be the new jobs, what is the right education for those new jobs, his idea of the “new middle” and so on. But that is what he has been speaking about for some time and so is not really unexpected.
What is really new is what he calls geogreenism.
Green is the new red, white and blue…. It is for everyone who thinks geostrategically, geoeconomically, and is patriotic.
Asked whether the policymakers at Washington D.C have taken something from his book, he says, “It has really triggered a lot of education. That discussion has surely reached Washington.” But he is quick to admit, “That is still at a discussion level. It has not crystallized into a national strategy.”
And about the most interesting thought about making it an open source book, Friedman is non-committal.
I have considered making it an open source book like Wikipedia. At some point, I may do that. It is simply the problem of managing it…. Somebody would really need to be editing it, refining it, sharpening it…That itself is a full time job.

A few months ago, I sent an email to Tom Friedman offering him through his editor to translate his book in French. Still waiting an answer ….
