Surprise! Surprise! U.S. is No. 3 Outsourcing Destination
Outsourcing hubs, India and China, have one more competitor up their sleeves. And no it’s not another Asian country but world’s largest buyer of services, the U.S.A. It is the third most popular destination for offshore outsourcing among British CIOs, according to a survey by British recruitment firm Harvey Nash.
U.K.-based technology leaders very obviously prefer to keep services linked to systems, security and strategy close to home either in the U.K. or in the U.S. because of a sophisticated legal system to rely on, awarding the above rank to the U.S.
Though American firms failed to be the top choice in any category, it ranked No. 2 in eight areas (program management, business analysis, software development, systems architecture, systems testing, security skills, IT strategy and data centers) and third in two more categories (software testing and software support). In fact, the only category the U.S. didn’t rank in the top three was systems support.
India is losing its position as outsourcing leader due to factors like rising wages and high level of attrition.
Rounding out the top 10 were Malaysia, Brazil, Philippines, Vietnam, Poland, Romania and South Africa, which dropped to tenth place this year from last year’s fifth position.
DataPlus is a US data processing company in business since 1992. We have competed with offshore companies that did not have to play by the same rules and found it difficult. We don’t mind competition but on a fair playing field.
The Black Book of Outsourcing also predicted this was going to happen way back in a 2005 report. It was only a matter of time before the major offshore giants like Infosys, IBM, Cognizant and TCS would be exposed for not re-investing profits like their American competitors must into safety and security of data, employees and facilities.
US & UK outsourcing buyers are expected to be fleeing India as the risks become more and more apparent, and the rewards are no different than most US and UK alternative locations. Because Indian vendors have cash, lets hope that Obama establishes heavy tax implications for them to set up US data centers to profit from us more.
