Sun, sand and merengue, Dominican Republic is now becoming popular for its efforts into promoting its many benefits to international technology companies. And in the wake of this, a new company called GlobCom will start operations in this Caribbean nation and will generate 500 jobs.
"The company is interested in expanding its services to San Francisco de Macoris, as part of its development and growth strategy," informed Eddy Martínez Manzueta, Director Investment and Export Center (CEI-RD). It is the Government department created with the purpose of promoting the favorable investment climate of the Dominican Republic as well as promoting the vast resources available for international trade.

Globcom currently operates a call center in Santiago de los Caballeros that employs more than 200 people among agents and administrative staff.
"The company signed a contract with a foreign organization, allowing them to unify commercial criteria and generate more than 1,600 jobs in the country’s northern region, but mainly in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros," explained Martínez Manzueta. "The biggest challenge is to recruit 1,400 more people as agents in the months to come."
As a matter of fact, Dominicans have embarked on an aggressive campaign to ditch their tropical tourism image in favor of one which is a bit more technological. The country is banking on both its proximity and family ties to the U.S. to grab the growing call center commerce as more and more industries seek business operations closer to home — and more Americans are frustrated with customer service operators with Asian accents.
