Wipro BPO, the BPO arm of India’s third largest software exporter Wipro, is planning to launch two overseas centers in China and send all its current customers there. Along with China, it is also planning to open one center each in the the U.S. and Romania in the current fiscal.
The two Chinese centres are coming up in Shanghai and Chengdu. Wipro is planning to recruit about 300 people for both the Chinese centers, who will look after the financial analytics area.
Though the size of the U.S. center, which will take care of compliance-sensitive projects, is not announced yet, Wipro has already started its expansion in the U.S. with the mega buyout of U.S-based Infocrossing. And its center in Romania, to handle procurement processes, will have 100- people team. But earlier it had announced that the Romanian center will start with a 500- people team.
Wipro already has a development center in Kiel, Germany, which completed five years of operations in June this year. It is one of Wipro’s most successful nearshore locations offering a broad range of services in the research and development of embedded products.
The decision is taken in an attempt to diversify Wipro BPO’s overseas client portfolio and remain competitive.
Wipro BPO reported a 20 percent year-on-year growth in revenues during June quarter at $62.3 million. However, the June quarter revenues declined by 4.5 percent over March quarter’s $65.3 million because of the sharp appreciation of the rupee. Fiscal year in India is from March to April.
