Global Services turned one this February. Let me take that opportunity to give you a heads up on what is happening at our end.
We concluded our annual Global Services conference in New York on Jan. 31st, where we announced our list of the top 100 global service providers in IT and BPO. Many of you were present to hear Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Laureate, and people from the sourcing community talk about their experience of sourcing services globally.
Going ahead, we promise to have more conferences that will give you the chance to discuss best sourcing practices with other customers of services, and interact with the service providers. Our next one is scheduled for the second quarter — we’ll announce the date shortly.
Also watch out for changes to our Website — www.globalservicesmedia.com — as we work toward positioning it as your gateway to outsourcing.
At the Website you’ll find comprehensive databases of service providers and outsourcing deals. You’ll find a careers section with expert advice on global careers and job postings. You’ll find articles written by our panel of industry experts and Global Services writers. You’ll also find articles from other sources, which our editors will painstakingly crawl to bring you the most useful and credible content.
The Website will be launched shortly — wait for announcements.
On the people front, inspired by the global career opportunities that are possible today, Rusty Weston (the Editor-in-Chief responsible for bringing the magazine to its current reputable state) has ventured out on his own. Many of you who jet set across Budapest, Bangalore, Bangok and Beijing will find his new site www.myglobalcareer.com useful.
In the midst of all this action at Global Services, the defining part going forward will remain the in-depth content that Rusty has made us known for.
In keeping with the tradition of in-depth research and analysis, our cover story this month is a result of Associate Editor Balaka Baruah Aggarwal having spent many months tracking the sourcing practice of Time Customer Service, a Time Warner company. In the story Time Customer Service’s Offshoring Journey she examines how the company is working intimately with its offshore service providers.
Our other story to watch out for this month is Indian Wages on the Rise: Is Outsourcing to the Country Sustainable? As wages consistently move upwards in India, we examine if outsourcing work to the country will continue to be a strategic decision, and conclude, after a lot of research and interviews, that it will.
Do talk to us and let us know what you’d like to read more of, less of, the type of people you’d like to meet at our conferences, the type you wouldn’t want to meet . Write to me at juhib@cybermedia.co.in
