GSP Index: July 2006
The Global Services Provider 100 Index held steady during the month of June, closing at 1015.8 on June 30th, down from 1025 on May 31st. The S&P 500 was virtually unchanged during the month. During the first half of the year, the GSP Index has traded within a narrow range, reaching a high of 1099.8 on April 4th, and a low of 998.3 on June 9th.
Wipro closed at 13 on July 6th, up 17% for the month. Other strong performers included Infosys, which closed at 78.06, up 14% for the month, and Cognizant Technology Solutions, which closed at 68, up 11% for the month. Hewitt was the biggest loser, closing at 22.8 on July 6th, down 15% for the month, followed by Keane (12, down 9%), Syntel (20.4, down 8%) and Patni (14.1, down 8%). On June 30th, Citigroup upgraded Hewitt to buy from hold, citing the improving environment for human-resources consulting and benefits outsourcing.
