Australias leading bank, Westpac, is considering the possibility of outsourcing some of its administrative-processing work to India, according to David Lording, the company spokesperson, as reported by the Press Trust of India the Indian news agency.
We believe that the best approach is to do it in reasonably small pieces to ensure that there is no disruption, the agency quoted Lording. However, no final decision on job transfer has been made till now, according to the report.
We have successfully outsourced a number of functions over the last five years including mortgage servicing, cheque processing and data processing, said Lording. Any further outsourcing will be a continuation of this process as it needs to be built on using partners that can more efficiently perform operations where we have no comparative advantage, he added.
The leading Australian bank has already outsourced a number of functions to India. The other leading Australian companies doing offshoring to India are financial-services companies like the ANZ Group and National Australian Bank; telecom service providers like Telstra, Optus, and Hutchisons Australian operations and Australian airlines, Qantas.
