Personal computer maker Dell plans to double its headcount in India over the next three years. Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, currently has a 10,000 strong workforce in India.

Bert Quintana, VP, Dell International Services said that his company would increase the strength of its employees in India to 20,000 in the next three years.

According to recent reports, Dell is expecting its proposed plant in India to commence operation by end-2006. This plant would help the computer maker to win a share in a booming market by cutting delivery time.

The India plant would be Dell’s seventh in the world. It already has two plants in China and one in Malaysia. The company’s announcement to double its headcount came close of on the heels of IBM Chief Samuel J. Palmisano’s announcement to invest $6 billion in India over the next three years.
