Global Talent Crunch is Abundantly Unclear

Skype is ringing off of the virtual hook. The Blackberry is buzzing. Instant messenger windows are pulsing on my laptop like Times Square lights on New Year’s Eve. We’re multitasking in multishore mode on the eve of launching globalservicesmedia.com, the digital fruit of our collaboration between CyberMedia in New Delhi and CMP Media in New York.

Wait, that sounds like your world too, doesn’t it?

Welcome to the Global Services website — we created it with your business information needs in mind. And we propose to engage in a type of collaboration with you, the buyer or seller of business and technology services. As you know, the Web is spread an inch deep and a mile wide with articles that skim the disciplines of sourcing people, processes and technology. But for professionals who want to master what we term Global Services — ranging from business process outsourcing, IT outsourcing, customer service or the effective management of (captive) global business operations — we aim to become your deepest, timeliest and most useful information source.

Beyond reporting from the U.S.A. and India (among other destinations), our value proposition to you is in the way we engage with industry experts to facilitate peer discussions, illuminate best practices, and short-list the most innovative and effective suppliers of business and technology services.

In this spirit of collaboration I encourage you to participate in Global Services. Please sign up for our free newsletter called This Week In Global Services. Look at the program for our Feb. 2nd Global Services Conference in New York. Then please use our blog or email us to share your ideas and suggestions for how we can fine-tune this product to match your information needs. Later this month our magazine rolls off of the presses with a cover story spotlighting the Global Services 100, a study conducted with neoIT to identify the world’s leading providers of business and technology services. And to begin with we have a blog moderated by the experienced Shyamanuja Das, executive editor — online, who is also an editor at large of our print magazine. Plus, our website features breaking news, an exclusive stock index of the leading global service providers, plus the archives of the predecessors of Global Services — a CMP newsletter called Managing Offshore and CyberMedia’s Global Outsourcing magazine.

According to Blink, Malcolm Gladwell’s bestselling pop-science book, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. That’s especially true on the Web where people will mouse away from your site, faster than they can walk by a book display at a Barnes & Noble. One of the golden rules of a successful collaboration is the understanding that, implicit in the relationship, we share a stake in the outcome of the project. With your involvement, energy and ideas, we will do great things together.

Please let us know how we can serve your information needs at rweston@cmp.com.
