A new study by Dataquest, a sister publication of Global Sevices, that ranks India-based BPO service providers alongside the Indian subsidiaries of North American BPO firms, has thrown up some interesting names. Gurgaon, India-based Genpact, the spin-off from GE, predictably emerged as the top company in the ranking while the Indian subsidiary of Convergys ranked as No 2. The other three in top five list are recently-listed WNS Global Services, Wipro BPO and Aegis.
The other firms that featured in the ranking include OfficeTiger, IBM Daksh, HCL BPO, ICICI OneSource, Progeon, EXL Service, vCustomer, Sutherland Global Service, e4e, 24/7 Customer, MphasiS BPO, Hinduja TMT, Intelenet Global Services, Techbooks, TCS BPO, Efunds, GTL BPO, Transworks, Datamatics Technologies and Sitel.
This year witnessed the consolidation of a few key service lines for the BPO exports sector. Finance & accounting, customer-interaction services and HR administration emerged as the top three service lines in the order accounting for 89% of the total revenues, according to the study. Customer-interaction services alone accounted for 46% of the revenues.
The study further reports that Indian BPO companies competed with their U.S./U.K. counterparts more as equals, especially when it came to newer areas such as industry-specific services and knowledge-intensive services.
